Commitment to Women’s Economic Empowerment

The Need for Economic Empowerment

Many women in the Maasai, Samburu, and Turkana communities face limited access to financial opportunities due to traditional gender roles and economic barriers. REWA Home aims to dismantle these obstacles by providing training, mentorship, and financial literacy programs that enable women to launch and sustain their own businesses.

The Entrepreneurship Programme

  • Objective: Equip women with business skills and knowledge to create sustainable income streams.
  • Duration: 6 months
  • Participants: 25 women per cohort
  • Outcome: Women develop business plans, receive mentorship, and gain access to microloans to kickstart their ventures.

Through this initiative, women gain confidence in managing their finances, making business decisions, and creating long-term economic stability for themselves and their families.

Skill Development: Practical Training for Sustainable Livelihoods

REWA Home recognizes that economic empowerment goes hand in hand with skills development. To ensure that women have access to sustainable job opportunities, the organization offers training in various practical fields, including:

  • Handicrafts & Traditional Weaving – Teaching women how to create marketable handmade products such as jewelry and textiles.
  • Agriculture & Climate-Smart Farming – Providing knowledge on modern farming techniques that promote food security and income generation.
  • Tailoring & Textile Work – Training women to design and produce garments for local and international markets.

Each of these programs is designed to align with market demand, ensuring that participants can monetize their skills effectively.

Success Stories: Transforming Lives One Woman at a Time

REWA Home has witnessed numerous success stories of women who, through the organization’s programs, have been able to break free from poverty and build independent lives. One such story is that of Naipanoi, a Samburu woman who started her own beadwork business after completing the entrepreneurship training. Today, she sells her handmade jewelry internationally, providing a stable income for her family and inspiring other women in her community.

Community Market Initiative

To further support women-led businesses, REWA Home is developing a Community Market Initiative, where trained women can showcase and sell their products. This market will not only provide an economic boost to women entrepreneurs but will also create a platform for cultural exchange and local economic growth.
